Construction begins Feb. 2 on North Chadbourne improvements

Construction begins Monday, Feb. 2, on pedestrian improvements on North Chadbourne Street between 7th and 14th streets. To alleviate the impact on traffic, construction will occur on one side of the street at a time, beginning on the east side.

Once completed, the project will provide accessibility improvements that include new sidewalks, curbs and gutters; Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant ramps; crosswalks markings and underground conduit for future lighting and landscape irrigation.

The work is being funded through federal grants and funding from the Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone, which reinvests property tax dollars generated through increased appraisals back into the zone.

Similar improvements have been made along Chadbourne downtown and from 18th to 21st streets as part of a long-term plan to improve the roadway’s pedestrian access and aesthetics.

The latest construction is expected to continue through May. Entrenos Inc., a local construction company, is serving as the project’s contractor, coordinating the work with the City of San Angelo’s Engineering Services Division.
