Both Drivers Contend they had Green Light at Crash on Pecos and Jefferson

Two drivers, both claiming to have had the right of way, collided at the intersection of Pecos and Jefferson this afternoon, requiring police and firemen to pull out the jaws of life to assist one of the drivers out of his vehicle.

Janna Estes, 36, was driving westbound on Pecos St. in her 2008 Chevy Silverado when the crash occurred, SAPD officer Palmer said. At the same instance, Howard Green, a 72-year-old San Angelo resident, was traveling southbound on Jefferson when Estes T-boned his Ranger on the driver's side door.

Officer Palmer stated that both individuals contended they entered the intersection on a green light, and the sole witness to the accident could not provide a usable statement. When the Silverado collided with the Ranger, it was pinned against a tree, resulting in the use of the jaws of life to free the man inside. 

"The driver of the Silverado walked away from it, but we did have to put the jaws down and actually pop the door, cut the door on the driver's side [of the Ranger] to get him out," said Fred Barnett of the San Angelo Fire Department."Once we got the door open he was able to walk out on his on. He's since been evaluated for some superficial injuries...Nobody is going to the hospital and the Silverado pickup was able to drive away."

The accident forced closure of the intersection for less than an hour, blocking all traffic at Pecos and Jefferson. No passengers were in either vehicle and no citations have been issued, however one of the drivers must have entered the intersection on a red light, Palmer said.
