VIDEO: 2012 High Speed Police Chase Ends With Rollover Into Residence

Krystal Marie Martinez sped out of the HEB parking lot on July 12, 2012 and crossed Ave. N, narrowly missing a white passenger car as her green Ford Expedition crossed the westbound lane and continued onto Harris Street.

Pulling behind the SUV at Harris and College Hills, San Angelo Police Officer Jeff Fisher initiated a traffic stop and Martinez pulled over, but she had no intention of staying put. When Fisher approached the vehicle, Martinez provided a number of explanations as to why she’d failed to yield right of way, and initially identified herself as Tracy Paz and gave a false date of birth.

“She first stated that she waited until the vehicles were clear before she crossed the intersection,” Fisher’s report on the incident states. “She then stated that she was just in a hurry because one of her friends was having a birthday party.

“Well, because I was in a hurry I forgot my driver’s license, and this is my friend’s car so I’m not sure where the insurance is,” Martinez continued.

When officer Fisher returned to his patrol vehicle to check the information, Martinez sped away at a high rate of speed, cutting though a parking lot on College Hills on her way towards Sherwood Way.

At the intersection of Sherwood Way and A&M, Martinez momentarily lost control of her vehicle and spun out, then came to a complete stop facing Henry’s Diner before flooring it and heading tearing through the parking lot.

Westbound on Harris, Martinez blew through a stop sign at College Hills and continued onto Ave. N, where she turned northbound back to Sherwood Way and continued to Arden Road, continuing to accelerate.

Reaching speeds of 70-80 mph, Martinez turned north onto Glenna and sped over the loop, accelerating rapidly to 92 mph. At the intersection of Edmund and North Van Buren, Martinez lost control of the vehicle once again and flipped the vehicle onto its driver’s side in the front yard of a residence.

As Fisher and Officer Ryan Morgan approached the vehicle, Martinez climbed out and fled on foot. She was quickly captured nearby and handcuffed.

When asked why she ran, Martinez indicated that she had a warrant out for her arrest for possession of a controlled substance. Upon searching the vehicle, officers found small quantities of methamphetamine, prescription drugs, suspected black tar heroin and another brown, powdery substance.

Martinez was booked into the county jail for evading in a motor vehicle, evading on foot, fail to identify, possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1, possession of a controlled substance penalty group 3 and an MTR warrant.

After her brief police chase, the fail to indentify and possession of a controlled substance charges were dismissed. Martinez plead guilty to evading in a motor vehicle and was sentenced to five years imprisonment.  She also plead guilty to possession of meth and was sentenced to 180 days confinement in a state jail and $140 restitution.
