Detectives Confirm Missing Teen Under Influence of K2, Search Continues on River

The search for Daniel Perez continues on the Concho River this morning, as a police boat outfitted with high-end sonar scans the bottom for anything resembling the young boy.

SAPD Lake Division and Detectives scoured the area and the waterway for approximately five long hours Tuesday, turning up no signs of Perez, who was last seen on the same stretch of the Concho at around 5:30 p.m. Monday.

A Nixle Alert Tuesday described Perez as endangered and under the influence of an intoxicant; SAPD Detectives have now confirmed that intoxicant to be K2, or synthetic marijuana.

Perez had been underway with friends Monday afternoon before the headed down to the river, detectives said. He became aggressive toward his companions and then demonstrated seizure-like behavior once they had reached the waterfront between the Celebration Bridge and the Irving Street bridge.

When his friends were ready to leave the river, Perez chose to stay behind, detectives explained from witness testimonies. Because he had been aggressive, his friends chose to leave without him, Perez preferrring to stay and swim. He has not been seen since.

SAPD Detective Sgt. Doug Thomas said Tuesday that the search will likely continue on land, and Lake Patrol Officers are currently dragging the river in front of the River Stage.

According to SAPD, Perez is a Hispanic, male, 5'10", 200 lbs, dark brown hair, light brown eyes.  Perez was wearing a white T-shirt, black basketball shorts, and white athletic shoes.

Hopefuly the young man is located soon. I also hope that his friends are made aware of the toll this has taken on their families and the taxpayers. Of course when the search is over and the money is spent, the knee-jerk reaction will be to place blame on an inanimate object (K2) which is innately harmless until it falls into the hands of ignorant human beings (e.g. guns, knives, marijuana, bleach, plastic baggies etc.). We'll all be expected to foot the bill (whether we want to or not) and buy into the notion that stringent REGULATION and bigger government would've prevented this. Personal responsibility is all but dead.
