City of San Angelo Public Information Officer Expresses Fear of San Angelo LIVE!

City of San Angelo's Public Information Officer Anthony Wilson is becoming a prolific Internet video producer. His videos are usually informational in content, and at times covering the most boring and dry subjects one would expect from a municipality, 

There are exceptions.

In his latest video series, Wilson tackles common city issues in less than a minute. They are called "The City in 60."

In Wilson's Apr. 7 "City in 60" video release, he tackles the city's emergency sirens. After explaining when the sirens may sound, Wilson crawls under his desk as the sirens blare. 

A co-worker enters Wilson's office to ask why he's under his desk. Wilson's reply, "Don't you hear that? It can be anything! Tonnados, locusts, 'San Angelo LIVE!'"

Wilson was poking fun at our crime, fire and car crash coverage that have made us a household name in these parts.

Speaking of dry content, in this video, Wilson gets wet, wearing a wet suit searching for water where he can swim. Finding little water, the video emphasizes how little water is left in the Concho Valley that's struggling with a three-year-old drought. The purpose of the video is to urge citizens to conserve water:

We're not too sure about that hair flip, though.

On a more serious note, Wilson has turned his video talents towards documenting history in the area. This video is a fantastic interview with 92-year-old Ludwig Havlak, who served as a radar gunner on the B-24 in the South Pacific during WWII.

Working with Wilson is Brian Groves, the city's Multimedia Coordinator. Wilson is a Texas A&M grad, class of 1989, where he earned a BA in Journalism. Whoop!

Just one man's opinion -but I like Anthony's videos. Yeah, there's a couple of yawners - but overall, they're pretty well done and informative. Keep up the fine effort!

Don't tell any of the old fogies this, but the city's YouTube channel is a great idea! I rather like some of the videos as they are informative, a little tongue in cheek, and relevant. It's like San Angelo is beginning to grow up a bit, despite the hard push to keep it in the 1920s. Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning. Benjamin Franklin

Multimedia Coordinator Brian Groves is the true mastermind behind The City in 60. His production makes the Public Info Officer look better than he deserves. The PIO's role is simply to hammily and happily play the stooge in the videos. Glad folks seem to like them. If you think there's a topic we should tackle, please let us know. Yet some of us are better in front of the camera. This team is doing a great job. I hope in the long run their efforts pay off and more local people appreciate what we have here and hopefully more of the younger generation take an interest in what it takes to run and govern our great city. The Pearl on the Concho. Better than any big apple.
