San Angelo Park Gets Facelift, Rededicated

You may think you know San Angelo, but do you know where the Jaime Padron Park is? If you guessed the park formerly known as Rio Vista on Ben Ficklin Road, you’re a winner.

Following an extensive renovation that included a new pavilion, restroom facility, new walkways, lighting and refurbished practice ball field and courts, plus two new and separate sets of playground equipment for children 2-5 and those 6-12, the park  earned itself a new name to go with its new face.

The renovations were funded by a federal Housing and Urban Development loan and some sales tax monies earmarked for park improvements.

On Saturday, Oct. 5, the City of San Angelo will rededicate the space Jaime Padron Memorial Park in memory of the former San Angelo police officer of the same name who died in the line of duty in Austin earlier this year.

San Angeloans are invited to come out and take part in the ribbon cutting ceremony and other activities, and to learn a bit more about the park’s namesake. Food and drinks will also be available.
