Nonprofits on Parade at Sunset Mall's Community Day

Nonprofits lined the corridors of the Sunset Mall on Saturday, displaying their services and answering the questions of the curious public.

Some like ICD Bridges and their Newbridge Family Shelter came to recruit volunteers and spread awareness of domestic violence.

“Families come for a safe-haven,” explained Pamela Colbert, Director of Newbridge, “we empower them.”

Other organizations, like the Tom Green County Library, had a booth promoting their new “What do you Geek?” campaign.

“We’re using the concept ‘geek’ as a verb to promote libraries,” said Larry Justiss, Library Director in reference to the promotion showing people ‘geeking’ about their professions, hobbies and dreams. “Libraries support you in those endeavors,” Justiss said.

Community Day provided visibility for nonprofits, as well as opportunities for the community to get involved. If you missed it on Saturday, a list of the attending organizations are on the Mall’s website. Contact the the organizations directly to learn how to get involved.
