Sammy Farmer is Running on Experience

SAN ANGELO, TX — Sammy Farmer is running for Tom Green County Commissioner Pct. 2 in the March Republican primary on business experience and a desire to help people.

Farmer’s campaign says he’s, “Home Grown and Ready to Go!”  In an interview Monday at his office at M.L. Leddy’s boot store downtown, Farmer said he is running because, “I just think I have the experience it takes to be a good county commissioner and I’ve always been wanted to but also I think there’s some key things facing us at that level and I think it takes a cool head  and I have three children and ten grandchildren who all live here and I care what happens here.”  He continued, “If I don’t do it, who is? Who are we going to get in there?”

Tom Green County is currently constructing a $50 million jail and is facing spending millions on a dozen capital murder cases.  Farmer says, “The multi-million dollar jail, expensive capital murder trials, and never ending unfunded mandates from the State are pushing the county budget to the brink.”

“We don’t need higher taxes.  We need vigilant commissioners with small business experience who know how to squeeze every penny to survive.”  Says Farmer.

Farmer is a lifelong San Angelo resident and a graduate of Lake View High School.  He says he was one of several people from Lake View who met weekly for lunch starting 25 years ago.  That group has produced municipal judges, County Commissioners, County Judges, mayors and city councilmen and school board trustees.

Farmer says the late Jerry Bristow was one of the key founders of that group.  When Farmer told Bristow twenty years ago that he wanted to run for county commissioner, Bristow told him to obtain experience first.

Farmer says he then built houses and developed subdivisions and then was appointed to the San Angelo Zoning Board of Adjustments where he served for eight years.More recently, he was on the the San Angelo Planning Commission where he served six years.

Early voting for the March 6 primary begins Feb. 20 and runs through March 2.  Farmer is available on Facebook at sammyfarmerccp2.
