Conaway Statement on Speaker Boehner's Retirement

Washington  –  Congressman Mike Conaway (TX-11) released the following statement in response to Rep. John Boehner’s announcement that he will retire from Congress at the end of October:

“I’d like to thank John Boehner for his nearly 25 years of service to our nation. Speaker of the House is not an easy role, and John was faced with immense challenges during his tenure as Speaker. His decision to step down as Speaker was a selfless act, and I commend his decision to avoid a source of conflict within our Conference. I wish he and Debbie all the best as they enjoy the next chapter of their lives.

“I look forward to a spirited debate as we elect our next Speaker. Now, it is time to come together as a Republican Conference and move forward, unified as a party to protect the conservative values that our nation needs.”

Conaway, who was on Boehner's leadership team, defended the Speaker at a town hall meeting in San Angelo Sept. 21.

“Boehner’s the Speaker, and I think he should be the Speaker for the rest of his term,” Conaway said. The next election for Speaker will be in November 2016, “And we’ll have a vigorous contest who will be the next Speaker.” Conaway asked a constituent what Boehner has done to deserve his ouster. “It’s what he hasn’t done,” a constituent explained. Others in the crowd chimed in. “He sides with Obama,” another said. “He hasn’t repealed Obamacare.” Read more about Conaway's response here.

Rep. Peter King called Republican House Speaker John Boehner's decision to resign under pressure from disgruntled conservative GOP members "a victory for the crazies." While, Speaker John Boehner blasted right-wing lawmakers and groups as “false prophets” who “whip people into a frenzy” to make legislative demands that “are never going to happen.”

Boehner resigned now who is going to lead the tea party ? what will the consequences be , a following of fools that think that a large majority of the population is going to follow quietly , i don't even want to think of what will happen , once the people realize that these politicians ( ted cruz and gang ) are out to take all their freedoms away . Do we see refugees fleeing in large numbers to neighboring countries . I think that trump has it right , build a wall and make Mexico pay for it , they will do it just to keep the americans out , once the poop hits the fan . We need the land that many americans now own in Mexico , most of the food that we eat in the winter , comes from Mexico , from american owned farms . I pray that this will never occur again ( civil war ) it is a horrible , horrible thing , no one will win .
