Farmer and Self File for Re-Election

District 2 Councilman Marty Self on Wednesday filed his candidacy for re-election to the San Angelo City Council in the May 9 election. Councilwoman Charlotte Farmer filed for re-election Tuesday.

The filing period continues through Feb. 27.

Four of the City Council’s seven seats are slated to be on the ballot – the mayor’s post plus the District 2, 4 and 6 seats. City Council terms are two years.

Self is seeking a second consecutive term; he previously served in the District 2 seat from 1989-95. He is the fourth candidate to have filed for a spot on the ballot. The others are:

  • Mayor – Dwain Morrison.
  • District 4 – Andrew Justis.
  • District 6 – Charlotte Farmer.

Candidates file the necessary paperwork in the City Clerk’s office in Room 210 on the second floor of City Hall, 72 W. College Ave. The office is open from 8 a.m.-noon and from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

Candidate packets containing applications, information and forms about the process for those considering running for City Council are available in the City Clerk’s office or online at cosatx.us/May2015. Questions can be addressed to City Clerk Bryan Kendrick at 325-657-4405 or at [email protected].

Voters and potential candidates can access a map of the City Council districts at cosatx.us/council. Determining which district one lives in can be determined by clicking the GIS map viewer on the same page.

Voters must be registered to vote by April 9 to be eligible to cast a ballot in the May 9 election. Voter registration information can be found at votetomgreencounty.org.

Mayor Morrison and Charlotte Farmer consistently want to place low income housing in
locations where it is not desired by the neighborhood. Does local government work for us? I think not, ergo, I will not vote for either in next election

Morrison voted against, and Farmer led the loudest vocal charge against the latest low income housing project.

The roads in San Angelo have deteriorated even further, since both councilwoman Charlotte Farmer and Mayor Dwain Morrison have been in office, thus neither one of them deserve my vote for reelection. All we got was money spent on yet another study which will confirm what the residents already know; we have high taxes and lousy roads.
