Conaway: President Wrong on Keystone

Washington  –  Friday, President Obama denied TransCanada's permit to construct the Keystone XL pipeline. Congressman Mike Conaway (TX-11) released the following statement in response:

“After seven years of reports and studies showing that the Keystone XL pipeline would create jobs, boost our economy, and have little to no environmental impact, President Obama has chosen politics over sound policy and blocked the pipeline from being built. Despite widespread Congressional support, including multiple bills passed by both the House and Senate clearing the way for construction of the pipeline, President Obama once again chose to act unilaterally, choosing radical environmentalist interest groups over hardworking American people.”

This pipeline thing will only create a few temporary jobs then what ? Can conway tell the people where the oil is going afterwards ? What will the consequences be if the pipeline is damaged , how many years and dollars will it take to settle the claims ? What will the damage be to the environment and how many years will it take to recover ? He should try telling the truth , oops , I forgot he is a republican .

I wonder if the pipeline was built, would it help the USA oil industry??? The US oil industry is currently struggling with low crude oil prices. If the Keystone pipeline was online shipping, there would be a much larger supply of oil available, and at cheaper shipping costs. Will that benefit our oil companies and related industries that have already laid off thousands of workers? I doubt it, I think it would only add to the US down turn in oil production resulting in less overall employment.

Mr. Conway seems like a nice person but he is a professional politician. Seems to me that it is time to send the "professionals" home and let some new folks have a shot. In my opinion we should demand term limits, no "special" pensions and healthcare and term limits. If the candidates don't agree to live like the rest of us then we need to vote them out of office. Re-elect no one. Forget about partisan politics for one election cycle and send the members of congress a message. We need to use the only power left to us. Vote in the primaries!

Does the congressman want to lift the ban on the sale of US oil? If so, how will that help us get off of foreign oil? Keystone is just a smoke screen
