All auto paints are made up of pigments, a binder and a carrier. The carrier serves the purpose of suspending the pigment and resin-like binder together in a liquid, so that it may be applied.
There are many different types of paints used in the automobile industry, and among those are acylic paints, which are water based, enamels (oil based) and urethane.
Most paints used in the automotive industryare made with petroleum-derived solvent carriers that dry and cure once applied to the surface. As the solvent evaporates, a chemical reaction occurs and a hard, durable coat of paint is left behind.
