Petroleum Products: Perfume

In west Texas, we say oil smells like money. On a global level, oil may smell like a number of things, as many commercial perfumes are made from those infamous petrochemicals.

It is estimated that some 95 percent of perfumes contain petrochemicals, many of which are used to lock in the moisture and fragrances and help them last longer once applied to the skin.

Perfumes have existed for almost as long as mankind. Archaeologists have found various samples and bottles of perfumes dating back over 4,000 on Cyprus, the oldest known perfumes in existence.

Below is a trailer for a film called Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. The film follows a French peasant boy with an amazing olfactory as he begins to train with some of the most talented perfume makers of his time. On his way to capture the perfect scent, life and death intermingle and the boy becomes a powerful and wanted criminal.[[{"fid":"749","view_mode":"default","fields":{"format":"default"},"type":"media","attributes":{}}]]
