Frito-Lay Recalls Two Flavors of Their Potato Chips

SAN ANGELO, TX — At the end of last week, Frito-Lay announced that it is voluntarily recalling select Jalapeno Flavored Lay’s Kettle Cooked potato chips and Jalapeno Flavored Miss Vickie’s Kettle Cooked potato chips due to the potential presence of Salmonella in the seasoning.

The seasoning blend, which includes jalapeno powder, could contain salmonella. Although no salmonella was found in the seasoning supplied by Frito-Lay, the company has decided to recall these products out of an abundance of caution, read a press release from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Further information from the FDA’s press release stated that “no other flavors of the Lay’s Kettle Cooked potato chips or Miss Vickie’s potato chips are impacted or being recalled.” Chip flavor, Jalapeno Cheddar Flavored Lay’s Kettle Cooked 40% Less Fat” potato chips are not impacted or being recalled.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, frail or elderly people, and people with weakened immune systems.

When salmonella infects a healthy person, people often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In more serious cases, salmonella can get into the bloodstream and produce more severe illnesses.
