San Angelo Community Medical Center Gets an 'A' for Safety

SAN ANGELO, TX - San Angelo Community Medical Center is one of 844 hospitals to get an 'A' ranking for being one of the safest hospitals in the United States.

A press release from SACMC stated this week that the The Leapfrog Group, a national patient safety watchdog, announced the new Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades (see here), which assigns letter grades to hospitals nationwide, and provides the "most complete picture of patient safety in the U.S. SACMC is one of 78 hospitals in Texas to receive the ranking.

"We are pleased to have earned an A grade in the Leapfrog update as it recognizes the safe, quality care we provide to our patients. We congratulate our physicians and staff in the accomplishment and will strive to maintain our A grade,” said CEO Jeremy Riney.

Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, said, "Protecting patients from harm is the most important charge for any hospital. We recognize and appreciate ‘A’ hospitals’ vigilance and continued dedication to keeping their patients safe.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, developed under the guidance of an expert panel, uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 hospitals twice a year, said the press release. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
