A Commemoration of First Responders Kicks of Today's Downtown Stroll at 5 p.m.

SAN ANGELO, TX — Today’s Downtown Stroll presented by Downtown San Angelo, Inc. and The Cultural Arts District runs from 5 - 9 p.m. this afternoon.

Downtown San Angelo, Inc. in partnership with “Operation Blue Shield will host the “Celebrating for CommUNITY” kicking off the Downtown Stroll.

The “Stroll” is a monthly event where everyone is invited to downtown San Angelo to enjoy art and music at multiple venues downtown. It was once referred to as the art walk.

This afternoon, the Stroll kicks off with a  call to action to the community to celebrate and show support to the men and women who put their lives on the line every day—the first responders and military in San Angelo.

It will take place at the corner of “Block One” (the intersection of South Oakes and Concho Ave.).

Participants will form a human circle around the stage in the middle of the intersection.

First responders will include the San Angelo Police Department, Tom Green County Sheriff’s Department, San Angelo Fire Departments, Goodfellow Air Force Base, Emergency Medical Service (EMS), Shannon Medical center and Community Medical Center, Pastors, Mayor, City Council Members.

The S. Oakes and Concho Ave. will be closed to traffic at approximately 5:50 p.m. today to allow attendees to form a square the intersection.

Remarks will be given by BG-Select Michael Downs, commander of the 17th TRW at Goodfellow AFB, Mayor Dwain Morrison, Fire Chief Brian Dunn, and Downtown San Angelo, Inc. chairwoman Brenda Gunter.  A prayer will be led by Theodore Boone, President of the Ministerial Alliance to conclude the tribute.

Refreshments will be served afterwards.
