4th Annual Asian Bazaar Set to Educate and Entertain

SAN ANGELO, TX - For many people, there is a kind of 'mystique' about the Asian culture. Whether it be the cuisine, arts, fashion, teachings, or mannerisms in general, the attraction can be mesmerizing. Many may not realize it, but right here in San Angelo, there is an organization dedicated to educating the public and sharing the members' Asian culture.

For the last four years, the Association of Asian-American Women, a non-profit organization, has been holding its Annual Asian-Cultural Festival locally, inviting the public to observe and learn about many of the group's customs.

Girlyne White is the President of the AAAW, and said, "This Saturday, October 8, our 4th Annual Asian Bazaar will take place at the El Paseo de Santa Angela, located at 20 E. Avenue D from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. We held our first event at a local church, and then the last two at the McNease Convention Center, but the response has been so great we needed more space."

White added, "The Asian Bazaar is our major fundraising event every year, and all proceeds collected will go towards the operation of AAAW, our many cultural education programs, and maintenance of the San Angelo Asian Cultural Center located at 528 Orient Street."

For Saturday's event, there will be plenty of Asian food vendors, local vendor booths, demonstrations of dance and martial arts, as well as games and crafts for the whole family.

"We will be raffling off a Yeti cooler, grill, 32" television set, gift baskets, and there will also be a silent auction," said White. Additionally, she noted that "two very popular attractions, especially for children, are the Origami lessons and bounce houses."
