Fiddlestrings Tuesday Night String Thing: Miles Williams

Just because he has long hair, mirrored shades, and looks like a Rock 'n' Roller, don't be fooled; Miles Williams, a.k.a. "Hammer," is all Country--Red Dirt/Americana to the core.

"I call it 'anti-establishment', anything non-Nashville," said Williams.

Originally from Alabama, Williams resides in Broken Arrow, just outside of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

"I play more in Texas than anywhere else and have been on a 14-day straight run, [including] Hobbs, New Mexico, Snyder, Waco last night, San Angelo Tuesday and then on to Lubbock on Thursday," Williams noted. "And then I just keep it going from there."

Williams added, "I've been playing since I was knee high to a June bug. In fact, my grandfather, before he died, gave me a harmonica and I have literally tormented everyone. For a couple of years, I was constantly walking around blowing that thing, and kept it in my overall pocket."

The musician said a lot of harmonica players use neck braces, but the way he plays, he uses both hands, leaving him unable to play the guitar simultaneously, for there are a lot of breaks and bends.

"I use my voice as a lead instrument," Williams said.

Williams is unlike most artists who say they are "self-taught."

"I did the whole reading music, taught, and took lessons when I was growing up," he explained. "I started out with the piano, clarinet, woodwind instruments, and the guitar was the last I decided to pick up."

Although he does, on occasion play the electric guitar, Williams said he prefers acoustic.

"My new album is fixing to come out with a single that hits radio next Monday, and the new video is in the process of being made," he added.

One video he is especially proud of is called "Your Side of Town."

Adding to his credit, Williams said, "In the last two years, I've had five top 40s, and one top 10 made it all the way up to number seven."

Additionally, he was proud to have played the benefit at Fiddlestrings for driver license organ donation, which was a huge success last year.

The event on Tuesday is an acoustic set, unless, he said, "I talk some special guests into hanging out; otherwise, it will be me only."

As for his fans, Williams said, "It's gonna be all ages, and you never know what you're gonna get; but guaranteed, it's gonna be a great show, so come out and see me at Fiddlestrings San Angelo!"

Williams will not have a merch table at tonight's event because he has completely sold out over his last couple of shows.

"That's 300 pieces of merch in one week, but people can go to my website and order a variety of items. As for the music, [fans] can go on iTunes, Amazon or my official website which is www.mileswilliamsofficial.com," Williams stated.
