SAISD: Central Attendance Down Due to UIL Events, not Threats

SAN ANGELO, TX-- Yesterday San Angelo ISD and SAPD were made aware of alleged threats toward Central High School students made on social media.

Those involved were contacted and the situations were contained, according to a statement by SAISD Director of Communication Derrick Jackson.

That hasn't stopped rumors and speculation about the attendance dropping at Central on Friday.

"The district attendance rate has remained in the 90% range today," Jackson's statement said. "Central reported a 15% decrease from their normal average."

That 15% drop was not from parents and students staying home out of fear. Rather, it was due to "UIL sanctioned events" that Central students are participating in around the area and region.

"Those participating students are out today which impacts attendance numbers," Jackson said.

I don't believe a word of what they say. I know students at central and central freshman who said there weren't many kids at school today.
