ASU Toastmasters Club to Recive Official Charter

SAN ANGELO, TX- Angelo State University’s Toastmasters Club will receive an official charter for membership in Toastmasters International during the meeting Wednesday, September, 21.

Representatives from Toastmasters International District 25, which includes San Angelo, will be on hand to present the ASU club its official membership charter. ASU President Brian J. May and other administrators will also be in attendance.

The Angelo State Toastmasters Club was originally formed in February 2015 and meets on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 4 p.m. in Room 005 of the Academic Building. Membership in the club is encouraged as a professional development opportunity for ASU employees, and ASU alumni and the public are also welcome to join. Dr. Laurence Musgrove, chair of the ASU English and Modern Languages Department, is vice president of public relations.

“We have been working patiently over the last year and a half to gather enough members to establish this new Toastmasters Club on campus, and we finally reached our minimum membership goal this last summer,” Musgrove said. “Our membership includes ASU faculty, staff and students and members of the local community. We have also begun to have guests from Goodfellow Air Force Base show interest in learning to improve their abilities to ‘Speak and Lead.’”

Toastmasters Club meetings provide multiple opportunities for members to improve communication skills, demonstrate leadership abilities, gain self-confidence and learn how to run successful meetings. They are also a great place to network and meet new colleagues.

Dues for the Angelo State Toastmasters Club are $42 per person for a six-month membership, plus a one-time $20 new member fee for educational materials. Members can attend as many or as few meetings as they wish and can participate and learn at their own pace. Marie-Clare Prisco of ASU’s human resources staff is the club president.
