ASU Summer Computer Coding Camp Expands for More Participants

Due to a higher than anticipated response, Angelo State University’s Department of Computer Science is expanding its annual summer ASU Code Camp for junior high and high school students by adding afternoon sessions to increase available slots for participants.

The two-week camp will run June 8-19 in the Mathematics-Computer Science (MCS) Building, 2200 Dena Drive, on the ASU campus. It is open to junior high and high school students interested in computer science and coding, and will be directed by Dr. William Wolfe, chair of the Computer Science Department.

The morning group will attend 8:30-11:30 a.m. sessions while the new afternoon group will attend 1-4 p.m. sessions Monday through Friday, June 8-12 and 15-19, in Room 115 of the MCS Building.

Registration fee for the camp is $30 per person, and advance registration is required.  Attendees will learn to design, implement and test computer code using the Java programming language and the Unity3D Game Engine. They will also learn the basics of computer science as they work in groups to implement a variety of applications. No programming experience is required, and students with prior programming experience or who have attended previous ASU Code Camps will work on more advanced projects.

To register for the Code Camp, contact Nancy Weller in the Computer Science Department at 325-486-5447 or [email protected].
