Alledged Levelland Shooter Charged with Capital Murder

 

LUBBOCK,TX – The suspect involved in the shooting of Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Josh Bartlett has been charged with capital murder.

Omar Soto-Chavira, 22, has been charged with captial murder of a Peace Officer after his involvement in a standoff last Thursday in Levelland. Soto-Chavira remains in custody at a Lubbock hospital.

Soto-Chavira is expected to have more charges brought against him and if convicted, he faces life in prison without parole or the death penalty.

During the almost 11 hour standoff, Sgt. Bartlett was killed and four other officers were injured. Levelland Police Sergeant Shawn Wilson was critically injured but remains in stable condition and the three other officers were treated and released.
