Suspect Indicted for Attempting to Run Over and Shoot a Man

SAN ANGELO,TX – Ilja Avdejevs has been indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury in June for threatening a man with a weapon, robbing him, then fleeing from police.

According to court documents, San Angelo police responded to the parking lot of 2020 N. Bryant Blvd. for a subject who brandished a firearm to rob someone.

The victim arrived at 2020 N. Bryant Blvd. in a yellow 2020 Corvette C8, parked in a parking spot, exited the vehicle and walked towards the entrance of the business. When the victim got to the walkway, an older model gray and black Ford pickup aggressively approached him, stopping just short of where the victim was standing.

A small in stature Hispanic male in a black shirt got out of the Ford pickup holding what appeared to be an “old timey single shot shotgun” and pointing it in the direction of the victim.

The man yelled at the victim “Give me your f--king keys!” twice and in fear for his life, the victim ran through the parking lot.

The suspect got back into the pickup and attempted to run over the victim by circling around and accelerating at high speed towards him.

The victim was able to run between a row of parked cars and eventually made his way back into the business.

When officers arrived, the suspect was still on scene. The victim and several by-standers pointed at the Ford pickup and as the officers approached the suspect’s vehicle, the suspect fled the scene.

The San Angelo police officers gave immediate pursuit until the suspect’s vehicle stopped. The suspect was detained and identified as Ilja Avdejevs. A pellet rifle with a brown butt stock was located inside the Avdejevs’ vehicle on the floorboards.

Video surveillance of the incident was viewed by investigators and it showed Avdejevs drive up in a black and gray Ford pickup and point a long gun at the victim. It also showed the victim run off frame on foot and Avdejevs get back into his vehicle and drive off frame.

Ilja Avdejevs was booked into the TGCDF on April 21st, 2021 and is being held on $115,000.00 bond. Avdejevs cannot have contact with the victim.
