Police Identify Man Found Dead Near the Concho River

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — Late Sunday morning, San Angelo police were observed searching along the Concho River below the W. Beauregard bridge near the Santa Fe Golf Course.

We confirmed at the scene that a body was found there.

According to the San Angelo police, at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, police dispatch was tipped off by a passerby that there was a “man floating in the Concho River” near the 600 block of Veterans Memorial Drive.

Police responded and found a deceased man on the riverbank, partially in the water. Seen at the crime scene was Police Chief Frank Carter. He said he was dropping by to observe the investigation in progress.

Justice of the Peace Fred Buck responded to the scene and formally pronounced the man dead and ordered an autopsy. The cause of death is under investigation.

The man has been identified as Phillip A. Lara, 26, of San Angelo. Police said next-of-kin have been notified.

Detective Josh Jones is the lead investigator on this case.
