Traffic Stop Leads to Large Drug Seizure in Wichita County

 

WICHITA FALLS, TX — The Texas Department of Public Safety seized 81 pounds of marijuana and 17 grams of hashish on Thursday after a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle traveling through Wichita County.

At approximately 5:45 p.m., a 2017 Mercedes Benz GLE 350 was stopped by a DPS Trooper while traveling on US-287 near Iowa Park for a traffic violation. A DPS canine unit arrived on the scene and alerted police of something in the vehicle. Shortly after, the Trooper discovered several large cardboard boxes containing marijuana in the rear of the vehicle and 17 grams of hashish in luggage.

The driver was Roland Ashley Hughes, 40, of Las Vegas, Nevada. He was arrested and charged with Felony Possession of Marijuana. Hughes was transported to the Wichita County jail and booked.

The illegal drugs were allegedly being transported from Palm Springs, California, to Dallas, TX.
