Oregon Man Pleaded Guilty to Making Terroristic Calls to Midland Airport

 

PORTLAND, OR. – An Oregon man has pleaded guilty to placing terroristic calls to airports in Nevada and Texas, threatening his father and brother were terrorists because they were invited to a family wedding and he was not.

The Clackamas, OR man, Sonny Donnie Smith 38, admitted to placing the anonymous calls to security offices at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas and the Midland International Air and Space Port in Midland, Texas.

Hannah Horsley, Assistant U.S. Attorney, said those calls were made on Sept. 3, 2016.

The calls made to the airports prompted FBI to investigate. Both Smith’s father and Brother were detained and questioned by investigators and the brother even missed his flight.

It was discovered that there was no terrorist threats, but Smith now faces up to two years in prison a $250,000 fine and one year of supervised release at the sentencing set in May.
