Alvarado Jr. Takes Life in Prison Without Parole over Possible Death Penalty

SAN ANGELO, TX -- A San Angelo man changed his plea to guilty of capital murder Tuesday morning avoiding the death penalty in a 2016 double homicide.

29-year-old Raymond Alvarado Jr. accepted the plea deal offered by the District Attorney’s office which sends him to prison for life without the possibility of parole.  Alvarado was accused of shooting and killing Jimmy Andrew Gonzalez and Anthony Michael Martinez at a residence in the 1000 block of Rio Grande St. in September of 2016.

Three others were arrested and charged with capital murder as well.  Ricky Ray Zuniga and Justin Gamez were arrested a few days after the shooting.  Krystal Nicole Sanchez was arrested later.

Alvarado also pleaded guilty to an illegal weapons charge and was sentenced to two years with credit for time served.  Alvarado waived  his right to appeal and was ordered to pay $5620 in restitution.

The victims’ families were allowed to read victim impact statements.  Gonzalez’s sister sobbed openly as she read her statement.  Martinez’s mother said as a Christian she forgave Alvarado.

Alvarado was taken by sheriff’s deputies to the Tom Green County jail to begin his sentence.
