One Man Sent to Mental Hospital; Two to Court Docket after Competency Hearings

 

SAN ANGELO, TX -- District Judge Jay Weatherby sent one man to the Vernon State Mental Hospital an two to court dates during competency hearings Wednesday at the Tom Green County Courthouse.  

56-year-old Alejandro Samaniego was ordered by the judge to 120 days for treatment at the Vernon Hospital.  Samaniego is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.  According to court documents, he was staying with a relative and swiped a knife at him on April 16.  Samaniego will remain in the Tom Green County jail until a bed is available at the Vernon unit.  Samaniego's photo was not available.  

55-year-old Randall Worley was transferred from the State Mental Hospital in Kerrville to the Tom Green County jail Monday.  Worley was found to be competent to stand trial.  He is charged with continuous sexual assault of a child under the age of 14. 

40-year-old Bolivar Newkirk was found to be competent to stand trial after evaluation at the Vernon State Hospital.  Newkirk is charged with sexual assault after police arrested him for assaulting a woman in the bathroom at the Lowe’s grocery store on 19th Street on july 5, 2016.  According to court documents, the victim described an assailant with tattoos and missing his left arm.  Newkirk has tattoos and is missing his left arm.
