K9 Thor Finds $49,000 in Meth and Heroin During Traffic Stop

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — Two San Angelo men are facing drug charges fallowing an early morning traffic stop in east San Angelo.

The stop was conducted at 12:30 a.m. by SAPD’s K-9 Unit and Patrol Division, who were conducting narcotics interdiction on U.S. Highway 67. 

The vehicle’s driver, 24-year-old Henry Steven Valverde, was arrested for not having a valid driver’s license and a passenger identified as Randy Lee Avila, 25, was detained.

During the stop, K9 Thor was deployed to conduct an open air sniff of the 2014 Chevy Malibu. Thor alerted police that the vehicle contained illegal narcotics.  

Officers located approximately seven ounces of suspected heroin and approximately 2.4 grams of suspected Methamphetamine as a result of the stop.  Both substances field-tested positive at the scene.

Valverde was charged with Felony 3 Possession of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 and Driving While License Invalid.  Avila was charged with Felony 1 Manufacture Delivery of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1. 

The pair was booked into the Tom Green County Jail.
