Odessa Man Issued Life in Prison for Attempted Robbery Turned Murder

ODESSA, TX – An Odessa man was sentenced to life in prison for murder after stabbing a man in the neck during an attempted robbery.

Last Friday, a jury found Ryan Carter guilty of Capital Murder in the death of Maikil Maduok from Feb. of 2015, according to the Ector County District Attorney's Office.

Carter was accused of stabbing Maduok in the neck after trying to rob both him and his wife.

After the murder, by-standers were able to catch and apprehend Carter until police arrived to make the arrest.

“This trial brings to close a terrible event in our community and ensures that this criminal will no longer be able to hurt our innocent citizens. Our hearts and prayers remain with the family of Maikil Maduok and hope this brings them some semblance of peace," District Attorney Bobby Bland told Cbs7.

Carter was sentenced to life without parole by Judge John Smith.
