HIDALGO, TX — The U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Hidalgo International Bridge seized $548,504 worth of alleged methamphetamine.
“This seizure is attributable to exceptional interview and observation skills by our CBP officers. CBP has an array of tools available, but our officers’ training and experience are key to all contraband interceptions,” said Port Director Severiano Solis, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.
On Saturday, July 15, CBP officers at the Hidalgo International Bridge referred a gold 2001 Nissan Pathfinder to secondary for inspection. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 42-year-old male Mexican citizen from Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico and a passenger was identified as a 33-year-old female United States citizen, both from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. After a physical inspection of the vehicle, the assistance of a canine team and the use of a non-intrusive imaging system inspection (NII), officers discovered 10 packages allegedly containing approximately 27.42 pounds of methamphetamine concealed within the vehicle.
CBP OFO seized the narcotics along with the vehicle, arrested the driver and passenger and turned them over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents for further investigation.
