San Angelo Police Receive Over 115 Fireworks Related Calls

SAN ANGELO, TX – The San Angelo Police Department (SAPD) received at least 115 fireworks related calls the night of July 4.

According to a list provided by SAPD Public Information Officer Tracy Gonzalez, officers were unable to locate the person[s] setting off fireworks at several locations police responded to. However, officers responding to a  call at 350 W. Ave. L at 9:36 p.m. reported the subjects had destroyed the fireworks instead of receiving a citation.

Officers responding to a call at 200 W. Ave. U at 9:39 p.m. reported to dispatch that they had stopped a string of fireworks from going off and confiscated them from the street.

At 9:44 p.m., officers responded to a call regarding fireworks in the 2200 block of Gun Club Rd. at the KOA.  The responding officers reported seeing fireworks everywhere.

Overall, San Angelo police officers gave over 20 verbal warnings for the shooting of fireworks within the city that night.

Police also responded to several calls for reports of shots fired. One of these calls led officers to an address, 210 S. Chadbourne, near the Dead Horse. There they located evidence of shots being fired but no victim was found and no arrest was made.

Officers also responded to a number of weather related calls during July 4, including a grass fire in the 6500 block of Shady Oaks Dr. that was caused by lightning and extinguished by rain.  Furthermore, officers responded to calls about downed power lines, burglar alarms and assisted vessels at Lake Nasworthy.
