SAN ANGELO, TX – A woman charged with violent kidnapping is set to begin her jury trial in July after one more short pre-trial hearing.
Aurora Deltoro-Santana, 27, and co-defendant Richard Michael Castaneda, 31, were both charged with Aggravated Kidnapping back in Nov. of 2016, after they kidnapped and assaulted a 49-year-old San Angelo woman.
According to the defendants complaint, San Angelo Police Department (SAPD) Officers responded to the 4800 block of N. Chadbourne Street for the report of an unknown problem where a man had located a female with her wrists bound together.
“Officers arrived and located the woman, who had visible injuries to her face and swelling and injury to her hands,” SAPD Public Information Officer Tracy Gonzalez, stated during the initial investigation. “The woman was transported to Shannon Medical Center for treatment of her injuries and later released.”
In an interview with the victim, she recalled being confronted by the defendants because they accused her of stealing their wallet. She also remembered having both of her wrists and ankles bound with electrical cords and rope by the suspects.
The defendants continuously assaulted the victim by punching her in the face. Castaneda also choked the victim repeatedly to the point of unconsciousness. The victim recalled to the Affiant, in court documents, that the offense took place at her residence.
Following the initial investigation, Gonzalez said Officers followed up on leads that led them to a travel-trailer located on a property in the 4800 block of Grothe Street.
SAPD Officers and Detectives with the Department’s Criminal Investigation Division responded to the scene. The initial attempts to make contact with the occupants were unsuccessful, however, after several hours of negotiation, both Castaneda and Deltoro-Santana, exited the trailer with a 3-year-old girl.
After being interviewed at SAPD Headquarters, both Castaneda and Deltoro-Santana were charged and transported to jail. Castaneda’s bond was set at $100,000 and Deltoro-Santana’s bond was $50,000. The child who was allegedly present during the kidnapping was taken into custody by Child Protective Services.
On Wednesday, Deltoro-Santana’s court appointed attorney Shawntell McKillop had a conference hearing in the Tom Green County Courthouse to discuss the upcoming jury trial on July 24. Deltoro-Santana was not present in the meeting, according to court documents.
Doltoro-Santana will appear before the 51st Judicial District Judge Barbara Walther for a criminal pre-trial on July 11. Castaneda's jury trial is scheduled for Sept. 18.
