Man Flees Police, Says He Did Not Want a Ticket

ABILENE, TEXAS -- Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers were led on a high speed chase yesterday afternoon for a 30 mile stretch on Interstate Highway 20.

The suspect, now identified as Steven Wayne Henry Jr. of Tyler, Texas, fled on his motorcycle as a Callahan County Trooper attempted to stop him for a traffic violation near mile marker 307 on the eastbound lanes. According to a DPS press release, Henry evaded arrest and fled south on US 283 and then north on SH 36 towards Abilene, Texas. Henry and officers reached speeds of 130 mph.

After traveling for an estimated 30 miles, two assisting Highway Patrol units were able to stop Henry on SH 36 near Blackburn Rd. in Taylor County. A local news source said, Henry told officers the reason he fled was because he "didn't want to get a ticket."

Henry surrendered without incident. Officers charged Henry with evading arrest. His bond was set at $10,000.
