Suspect Confesses To Shooting Brownwood Man In The Head

 

Brownwood, TX – Preston Dilon Browne, 25, has confessed to investigating authorities to shooting, Larry Irvin, 20, in the head.

On May 20,2017, Browne allegedly shot Irvin in the head in the 300 block of North Greenleaf Street in Brownwood, Texas. Irvin was initially transported to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene but was then taken to a Fort Worth hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. 

Police identified Browne as a possible suspect after a tip gave them information about a person fleeing the crime scene on-foot . According to a local news source, police located Browne on Saturday where he was charged with Tampering with or Fabricating Physical Evidence and Illegal Possession of a Firearm. Both are considered third-degree felonies. He also faces an Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon charge. 

Court documents show that Browne admitted to going into the Irvin's home to buy a gun from Irvin, where he late shot Irvin in the head. At the time of the incident, three of Irvin's roommates were inside the home. All three heard the gunshot, but no one was in the same room as Browne and Irvin.

One female roommate told investigators that she had heard the shot followed by Browne exclaiming, “He’s dead. I shot him.” A second female roommate, who was taking a shower at the time of the incident, heard the shot and rushed out to the living roo. There she heard Browne say, “I just killed him.” Irvin's third roommate told officers that he had heard Irvin and Browne arguing before the gunshot. By the time the third roommate arrived at the scene, he said he saw Browne fleeing out the back door. The three roommates were left with Irvin laying on the floor of the living room, bleeding from the head.

The details available regarding the shooting state the incident occurred around 12:30 p.m.  A neighbor recounted he had also heard people arguing followed by a gunshot.

Investigators confrim that Browne then tossed the shotgun he had and fled the scene. When Browne was arrested by police, police found a shotgun shell in his pant pocket.

During the investigation, police found holes in the walls, pellets from a shotgun shell, as well as a bag containing shells that were a match for the one found on the suspect at the time of his detention, at the scene of the crime.

This fatal shooting is being investigated as a homicide and Browne is currently booked in the Brown County Jail on a $600,000 bond.

Browne had been previously arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and tampering with evidence.

Both Irvins’s mother and girlfriend, with whom he had a 1-year-old daughter with, described Irvin as a "loving individual who always tried to help those around him."

Irvin's mother forgives Browne for allegedly killing her son, "It's very hard for people to understand that, but if you don't forgive, you're tying the hands of God," she said. "He won't forgive you, if you can't forgive somebody else."
