Ector County ISD Teacher Arrested During Undercover Sting Operation

ODESSA, TX – An Ector County ISD teacher, Carl Chancellor, was arrested earlier Wednesday morning on charges of solicitation and manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance during an undercover sting, said local city officials.

Chancellor, a longtime girl’s track coach and teacher for Ector County ISD, is currently on paid administrative leave while local law enforcement investigates, reported local news station NewsWest9.

Mike Adkins, an Ector County ISD spokesperson, said, “Certainly, it’s a mark on the school; it’s a mark on our school district, and it’s a mark on our community. The first priority is taking care of the kids at the school.”

The arrest comes after Ector County ISD shined during its all-state music competition where five students were recognized as all-state musicians. Adkins realizes that there may be many unanswered questions. However, he reassured parents and students that his district’s doors are open and that he will take all necessary steps to “give them the answers that they deserve.”

Chancellor's teaching position will now be taken over by substitute teachers, and Assistant Coach Robert Wills will assume the role as Interim Head Coach of the girl’s track team.
