83-Year-Old Ranger Man to Serve 12 Days in Jail for Indecency with 10-Year-Old Girl

ABILENE, TX – Last week, on December 20, a Ranger man made a plea agreement in a Taylor County court after pleading guilty to indecency with a child.

On January 12, 2014, James Wright, 83, was found with a 10 year-old girl on his lap in a local Abilene Church, reported KTXS. According to court documents, the girl’s father was looking for his daughter when he tried to enter a room in a church. However, upon attempting to open the door, he found that “something had been placed on the other side of the door to prevent it from being open.” After forcing the door open, the girl’s father found his daughter sitting on Wright’s lap.

According to further documents, the young girl said Wright touched her inappropriately and told her "crazy things."

On December 20, Wright pleaded guilty to his crime and was sentenced to 12 days in jail and 10 years of probation. He will also have to pay a $1,500 fine. If Wright avoids any further criminal charges during his probationary period, his charges will be dropped from his record.

Wright was booked in the Taylor County Jail Monday to begin serving his 12-day sentence.
