Motorcyclist Flees on Foot After Crash, Evades Police

At approximately 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, San Angelo Police Sergeant J. Rodriguez observed a black 2006 Suzuki motorcycle traveling north on Jackson St. with a defective tail light.

Sgt. Rodriguez activated his emergency lights initiating a traffic stop at Jackson and University. The driver of the motorcycle accelerated from Sgt. Rodriguez in an attempt to evade apprehension.

The suspect continued to flee by traveling north on Jackson and disregarded stop signs at both Avenue J and L. Believing the pursuit was becoming too dangerous, Sgt. Rodriguez slowed his pursuit in an attempt to protect the safety of the fleeing driver and the public.

Sgt. Rodriguez briefly lost sight of the suspect, and a short time later, located the motorcycle lying on its side, crashed in the roadway at Live Oak and Jackson. The suspect had fled on foot before Sgt. Rodriguez arrived.

The motorcycle was seized pending further investigation. There have not been any arrests made for this incident, and no further information is available at this time.
