Delivery Truck Set on Fire Behind City Lumber Monday Night

A fire was discovered at 11:30 p.m. late Monday night at the 600 block of West 14th Street. The San Angelo Fire Department responded for an unknown type fire behind City Lumber. The fire encompassed a small box delivery truck belonging to a carpet shop on Sherwood Way. Fire Marshal Ross Coleman said that the truck was reported stolen earlier today.

With the truck on fire sitting near the railroad tracks behind City Lumber, SAFD initially had difficulty gaining access to the fire. Over the radio, SAFD was considering shooting the flames with water hoses through a fence. Eventually, however, firefighters were able to gain entry through the fence.

Coleman said that there are no suspects and no witnesses. The vehicle was a total loss.

Home Motors towed the vehicle. On the trip back to the wrecking yard, the truck reignited in flames atop the home motors flatbed wrecker. SAFD was again called out to South Abe and Washington to put the secondary fire out.
