Skeleton Found Near Fort Stockton Not Brandon Lawson

News West 9 TV in Midland is reporting that skeletal remains have been found near Interstate 10 in Pecos County, about 22 miles east of Fort Stockton.

News 9 reported that a ranch worker found the skeleton located under an Interstate 10 bridge covered in brush.

Reportedly, the remains are a human skull and some bones.

The bones found were sent to a crime lab in Fort Worth to determine the sex and age of the bones, the report said.

Empathizers of the family of Brandon Lawson, a transient oil field worker who went missing in August 9, 2013 near Bronte, were expressing hope and horror that this may be the answer to this nine-month mystery. However, reports pouring out of Fort Stockton are not speculating on the identity of the remains found.

Update May 18, 2014, 11 p.m.

News West 9 TV reported today that the body found was of a woman in her late 20s or early 30s, and it was found 15 miles north of Fort Stockton just off FM 1053.

They reported that authorities said that the land owner found the body while he was checking wells on the property Thursday.

The body was sent to Lubbock for an autopsy, not Fort Worth as originally reported.

This is an example of poor Content Management Systems that do not display the date of the article. News West 9's stories were being shared on Facebook in relation to the Brandon Lawson disappearance throughout this past weekend. After some investigation, we determined that this is an old story from last year. But since the article didn't display a date that the story was published, we (and they) were duped. The body was a result of an Odessa cold case involving the disappearance of 26-year-old Tanya Michelle May. It was her skeleton and it was found last year.
