Police: Woman Commits Suicide by Driving Off a Cliff with Child

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — A woman died and a 12-year-old girl is in critical condition after the woman, Big Spring Police said, intentionally drove her Ford F-150 off the side of a the steep cliff of a hill inside Big Spring State Park.

Police and Big Spring Fire and EMS were dispatched to the 1900 block of W. 16th St. in Big Spring, where behind the old National Guard Armory they found the 1998 Ford F-150 pickup that had been driven off the cliff high above, along with two crash victims. The crash happened at 12:48 p.m. Wednesday.

The driver, Rosi Yselda Herrera-Rodriguez, 40, was transported to nearby Scenic Mountain Medical Center with serious injuries. Her passenger, a 12-year-old female, was flown by an air ambulance helicopter to Midland Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

Big Spring Police said Herrera-Rodriguez died of her injuries at 2:45 p.m. Police said an autopsy was ordered and scheduled for Friday morning.

The 12-year-old girl was reported to be in critical condition at the Midland hospital.

Big Spring police, aided by the Texas DPS and its Texas Ranger division, are conducting the investigation.
