Chevy Pickup Crashes Into Building During an Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting

SAN ANGELO, TX — Near the intersection of Avenue L and S. Oakes, police are investigating how an old black Chevy pickup ended up crashing through the front doors of an abandoned building there.

The building, what used to be a Garcia's Tortilla Factory, and Pop's Bakery, among other things, swallowed the front end of the Chevy.  The building today has signs in Spanish indicating this is where Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held.

According to San Angelo police, there was a meeting underway inside the building when the pickup crashed through the front doors. One person inside the building sustained minor injuries.

The driver, described as a 16-year-old male, told police he was on Avenue L and turned northbound on Oakes. A vehicle was parked in the street. “Somehow, he got caught up between the parked car and a tree and lost control,” police said.

The teenaged driver ended up driving through the front doors of the Alcoholics Anonymous meeting Friday night.

Police said between what the driver told him and a visual inspection of the skid marks, the story checked out.

Police issued the driver a citation for failure to control speed.

There is no irony. The kid had not been drinking and wasn’t drunk, police said.
