San Angelo Man Critically Injured, 2-Year-Old Girl Killed in Head-On Crash

 

EASTLAND, TX — A 48-year-old San Angelo man was killed in a head-on collision on Highway 183 in Eastland County last week. The Texas DPS identified the victims of the crash, originally reported on KTXS on Feb. 27.

According to the Texas DPS, the crash happened eight miles northwest of the City of Eastland between Eastland and Breckenridge.

A Breckenridge man, Douglas Dee Stewart, 59, was driving his Ford Taurus northbound on 183 when, according to DPS, he veered into the oncoming southbound lane.

Traveling south at the same time was an SUV occupied by only a driver, Pedro Olguin Lora, 48, of San Angelo, swerved into Stewart’s northbound lane to avoid a collision. However, just as Lora swerved to miss the Taurus, Stewart corrected back into the northbound lane as well. The two vehicles collided head-on.

Stewart was traveling with two passengers.

Steward was pronounced dead at the scene. His two passengers were rushed to Eastland Memorial. There, passenger Lillie Grayce Meeks, 2, of Graham died. Stewart’s other passenger, Cheryl Stovard Poteet, 63, of Breckenridge, was treated for critical injuries.

The San Angelo man driving the SUV, Lora was rushed to Hendrick Medical Center with serious injuries.

The crash happened at 7:20 p.m. on Feb. 27.
