SAPD Discover Much More than Identity in Calvert Collision Hit and Run Driver

SAN ANGELO, TX — (SAPD Press Release) On Tuesday, February 27, 2018, San Angelo Police received a report of a hit and run crash that occurred on February 26, 2018, at Calvert Collision Center, 3003 S. Bryant Blvd.  The crash, which was captured on surveillance video, shows a man driving a red Ford F250 with a white camper shell backing into a sign pole and then driving off the property without notifying the owner.

The video, which was later published on the Departments Facebook page, solicited several tips that all named the driver as Carl Ramage, 46, of San Angelo.  Upon hearing Ramage’s name, Hit and Run Investigator Steven Quade recalled a separate hit and run crash that had been reported on February 26 — a crash in which Ramage was listed as the victim that claimed his truck was damaged by a pickup truck driven by a Hispanic female who fled the scene.

But local tipsters were not the only ones that contacted Police after watching the Facebook video — Ramage also contacted the SAPD and later verified the hit and run Incident he reported was, in fact, fabricated.

As a result of these investigations, Ramage will be charged with Failure to Stop and Leave Information Duty on Striking Structure, Fixture, or Highway Landscaping and False Report to Peace Officer.
