Man Dies After Slamming His Chevy into Tree on Other Side of Roadway

 

COLEMAN, TX — A single vehicle crash near Coleman claimed the life of one man Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Texas DPS, Darrell Glen Phillips, 64, of Coleman was driving east on FM 568. At approximately one mile east of Coleman, Phillips veered left across the westbound lane and off the north side of the roadway. His 1999 Chevy pickup struck the fence, and then barrowed through a field before slamming into a tree.

The location of the crash:

DPS is still investigating the crash, though they did report Phillips was not wearing a seatbelt.

Phillips was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

DPS reported that the crash happened at 2:28 p.m. Wednesday. The weather was cloudy and the roadway was dry. The speed limit where the crash happened was 60 mph.
