Loose Chow Chow Causes Loop 306 To Shut Down

SAN ANGELO, TEXAS -- A brown Chow Chow running loose on the Loop was the reason for this evening's accident that caused the eastbound lanes of Loop 306 to shut down.

Around 8:30 p.m. this evening, first responders were dispatched to an accident in the 3600 block of Loop 306 between the exit and on ramp of Sunset Drive.

Officer Pollitt with the San Angelo Police Department (SAPD) stated that a black 2011 Nissan Altima was traveling eastbound on Loop 306 when it came across a loose dog running between the lanes of traffic. The Nissan, in an attempt to avoid colliding with the animal, began to slow down. At the same time a red Toyota Corolla traveling behind the Altima failed to see the Nissan slow down and rear-ended the vehicle. The dog ran away before anyone realized what had happened.

The SAPD had received several reports of a loose dog  in the roadway, Officer Pollitt explained, but no one was able to find it. Currently, the whereabouts of the dog are still unknown.

A passenger of the Toyota was taken via ambulance to a nearby hospital for a head laceration.

At this time another officer will be investigating the accident to determine necessary citations, if any.

Police officers have diverted traffic off the Loop at the Sunset Exit; delays are expected until the accident has been cleared from the roadway.
