ABILENE, TEXAS -- Yesterday evening, around 10:30 p.m., a fatal single-motor vehicle accident occurred on US-83, 2.1 miles north of Abilene in Jones County.
Sharon Kay Vinson, 58, of Abilene, was traveling south on US-83 in a 2003 Honda CRV when she swerved hard to the right after passing another vehicle. The hard swerve caused Vinson's car to slide into the west side ditch. The vehicle then rolled across the west service road and into a field coming to rest on its top.
Vinson, who was not wearing her seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. At the time of the accident, the weather and road conditions were clear/cloudy and dry. The posted speed limit at the location of the crash is 75 m.p.h.
Vinson's body was taken to Abilene Professional Services.
This crash is currently under investigation.
