15-Year-Old Steals Family Vehicle, Rolls Vehicle During Police Chase

BIG SPRING -- At approximately 5 p.m. yesterday evening, Big Spring Police Department officers responded to a residence in the 3200 block of Fenn in reference to a runaway minor.

The complainant, the mother of the runaway minor, reported to local police that her daughter had left their residence with her vehicle without consent. Two-and-a-half hours later, patrol officers located the stolen vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on the service road of I-20 and attempted to stop it.

The driver of the vehicle noticed the police officers and merged onto I-20 near HWY 176; a chase ensued with the vehicle reaching speeds of 100 m.p.h. At approximately the 159 mile marker, the driver lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway.

When officers approached the rolled vehicle, they found the runaway minor, the family's 15-year-old daughter, and a second 15-year-old female passenger. The two minors were taken to Midland Memorial Hospital and were treated and released to their parents.

This case will be forwarded to juvenile authorities. No other vehicles were involved in the crash and there were no further injuries.
