Man Saved After Attempting to Jump Off Loop-306
SAN ANGELO, TEXAS — Around 11 a.m. this morning, police responded to an unknown 9-1-1 call near the location of 122 N Loop 306.
SAPD public information officer Tracy Gonzalez said in a press conference, held shortly before 1 p.m., that "just after 11 o'clock this morning, the San Angelo Public Communications (SAPC) received an initial phone call regarding an unknown problem at the on ramp on the bridge at Pulliam." Officer Gonzalez continued, " The caller advised that there was a man, possibly with a knife, on the bridge." Shortly thereafter, SAPC continued to receive calls from multiple residents on the situation.
Right now, SAPD officers, including officers from other agencies, have responded to the location to help the male subject and to block traffic in the area. At this time no identification has been made.
Officer Gonzalez said traffic is currently being diverted as there is heavy traffic in the area from people going to and from classes at Howard College, as well as from residents traveling to and from the Paul Ann area.
The initial Nixle alert from the San Angelo Police Department, advised drivers to avoid the area of the Pulliam Exit Overpass from N US HWY 67. This area is still blocked and it has been advised that traffic will be blocked for as long as needed. For drivers commuting in the area, please take an alternate route as to avoid the nearby loop and frontage road.

SAPD officials have successfully resolved this mornings incident involving a man standing on the ledge of the Pulliam Street exit near the 1200 Block of North Loop 306.
After a 9-1-1 call alerted police officers to a man standing on the the Pulliam exit overpass, responding officers made contact with a 35-year-old man. The man was visibly distressed and armed with a knife. However, he never displayed the knife towards the officers in a threatening manner.
Police Department Negotiators arrived on the scene shortly thereafter and began communicating with the male subject. Eventually, the man left willingly with the officers to a nearby hospital. The negotiations took over an hour.
No one was injured during the incident. Officials blocked traffic in the area throughout the incident and alerted the public to avoid the area via a Nixle alert.
