TV Reporter Wayne Dolcefino Badly Injured in Crash on West Texas Highway

SAN ANGELO, TX — Wayne Dolcefino, the famed Houston television investigative reporter for years at KTRK-13, was badly injured in a car crash just west of Brady Tuesday morning. He is currently in critical condition at University Medical Center in San Antonio.

According to the Texas DPS, Dolcefino was driving his 2015 Lexus northbound on U.S. 87 near the intersection of FM 2088 headed to San Angelo. At approximately 10:40 a.m., a driver was headed southbound in another Lexus, and was attempting to pass a line of trucks. The southbound Lexus driver moved into Dolcefino’s lane of traffic to pass the trucks. Dolcefino attempted an evasive maneuver that was matched unintentionally by the oncoming car.

The two cars collided.

Both drivers were the sole occupants of their respective vehicles.

The location of the crash:

Dolcefino and the driver of the other Lexus, Bryan James Ice, 45, of Austin were airlifted to Shannon Medical Center with incapacitating injuries.

The initial DPS investigation reveals that Ice, the driver of the passing Lexus, was at fault. He was cited for failure to pass to the left safely.

Both drivers were transported from Shannon in San Angelo by air ambulance to the University Medical Center in San Antonio, according to DPS. Both drivers are in critical condition.

Dolcefino gained notoriety in San Angelo for his investigative reporting on the City of San Angelo’s trash contract with Republic Services. In a series of seven videos his firm produced, he exposed the City’s opaque dealings with the trash hauler and landfill management firm in Tom Green County.
